Using the Holland Home dial-up connection

Warning: Dial-up connections are very slow; we do not recommend using a dial-up connection to access the Holland Home system unless no other options for a high-speed connection are available. We reserve the right to discontinue the availability of dial-up connections at a future point in time.

  1. Download the dial-up setup file.
  2. When asked what to do with the downloaded file, choose Run:
  3. You will be prompted for two installation options. Select to make the connection available for All users, and ensure that the Add a shortcut on the desktop option is checked:
  4. You will see the following icon on your desktop:
  5. You will also see the following screen appear. This is the screen you will see every time you double-click the dial-up icon:
  6. The first time you use the dial-up connect, you must click the Properties button, which will bring you to the following screen:
  7. You will need to do the following process twice: once for the Phone number field, and once for the Backup number field. Click the Phone Book button next to Phone number, which will bring you to the following screen:
  8. Double-click the Access Number for Holland Home, which will bring you back to the Holland Home Dial-Up Properties window. Next, ensure that the Use dialing rules option is checked. Repeat this process for the Backup number.
  9. Put your Holland Home username and password in the respective boxes. Click the Connect button. You will see the computer dialing; after 30 to 45 seconds, your computer should connect, followed by a yellow arrow appearing in the system tray down by your clock:
  10. You are now connected to the Holland Home dial-up system. Note: While connected to dial-up, your regular Web and e-mail access will not be accessible. Only Holland Home information can be accessed while connected to dial-up.
  11. Finally, right-click the yellow dial-up icon in the system tray. You will see the following menu appear:
  12. Choose the facility you work at from the list, and proceed as you normally would when at work.
  13. Note: Due to the speed limitations inherent in dial-up connections, working in the Holland Home system will be very slow. There are some steps that you may be able take to improve the speed of the connection slightly; please call the HelpDesk and ask for information about "making my remote desktop connection faster over dial-up."
  14. When you are done working on the dial-up connection, right-click the yellow dial-up icon in the system tray and select Disconnect.
